Age Calculator — Find Your Exact Age with Days, Months, and Years

Knowing that you're "29 years old" only tells part of the story. This calculator gives you your exact age broken down into years, months, and days — plus the number of days until your next birthday and the total number of days you've lived so far. It handles leap years and varying month lengths correctly, so the result is precise rather than approximate.

How to use it

Enter your date of birth using the date picker. The calculator computes your age as of today automatically. You can also change the "calculate age as of" date if you want to know how old someone was on a specific date — useful for historical or legal age verification.

Common use cases

Verifying age eligibility: Many government schemes, scholarships, and competitive exams in India have age cutoffs. For example, SSC CGL has a maximum age of 32 (with category relaxations), UPSC CSE requires being at least 21, and many state PSC exams have their own cutoff dates. Calculate your exact age on the eligibility date to confirm whether you qualify before investing time in an application.

Age for school admission: Schools in India typically require children to be a minimum age as of June 1st or another specified date. If your child's birthday is near the cutoff, use this to verify their exact age on that date rather than guessing.

Calculating age for insurance: Life insurance and health insurance premiums are calculated based on age at the time of policy purchase. Knowing your exact age in years and months helps you understand why your premium falls in a certain bracket.

Retirement planning: Calculate how many years and days remain until a target retirement age. Combined with an EMI calculator and savings projections, knowing the exact time horizon helps plan more precisely.

Fun milestones: See which major milestone you're approaching — 10,000 days, 25 years, 30 years — and when your next birthday falls.

How age is calculated

Age is calculated by comparing the birth date to the target date (today, or a date you specify). Years are counted first — how many complete calendar years have elapsed. Remaining months are then counted, then remaining days. Leap years are handled correctly: February 29th birthdays count as March 1st in non-leap years for standard age calculation purposes.

The total days count is a straight day difference between the two dates, accounting for all leap years in between. This is why someone who just turned 25 might have lived 9,131 or 9,132 days depending on how many leap years fell in their lifetime.

Tips

For government exam age calculations, always check the exact cutoff date specified in the official notification — it's often not today's date. Enter that cutoff date as the "as of" date to get your age on the exact date that matters.

When calculating for children, the result in months is often more useful than years — "24 months" is more meaningful than "2 years" in early childhood development and medical contexts.

Limitations

This calculator uses the Gregorian calendar. It doesn't support calculations in other calendar systems (Hindu panchang dates, Islamic Hijri calendar, etc.). If your birth record uses a non-Gregorian date, convert it to the Gregorian equivalent first.

For legal or official age verification, always use official documents (birth certificate, Aadhaar, school leaving certificate) rather than a calculated result. The calculator is accurate, but official bodies accept documents, not calculator outputs.
